Hello folks. I have a 2003 35s12 2.3 with a sloppy diff. I've replaced all the propshaft UJ's and carrier bearings, but the drivetrain still has excessive play and a clang on occaision. I have taken the coverplate off the diff, and the visible gears appear to be okay, no metal in the oil etc. but the planet gears are totally encased, so I need to strip it further to inspect them. Does anyone know the most likely cause of this problem before I dig deeper into the bowels of the diff? Cheers in anticipation. |

From my limited knowledge on this, I believe the backlash can be adjusted with the use of shims to prevent excessive play between the prop and drive axle. However if its too far gone it might not fix the issue. |
