Hi fellow members . Seeking some advice. Particularly about the 2.8 engined dropside iveco daily .My transit has given me nothing but Greif lately . And the engine has gone pop . I've seen a few dailys at reasonable money . It will just be a tempary van as I'm waiting for my company to have its first set of accounts filed so we can get finance on a new van . What's the gearing like on the motorway ? I spend 80% of my miles on the motorway and currenty my transit 2.4 dropside screams even at 60mph that's about 3000rpm ... Reliability ? My transit has been going wrong every month ... Mph . Currently getting 19.8mpg on the motorway and I'm hoping this will improve ? Finally what's better twin wheel or single ? Cheers Joe |

Hi, your Transit will have had a towing diff fitted by the sounds of it (lower gearing), my works Transit does and it really does make a racket on the motorway! The Iveco does not have the option of a towing diff, mine is newer with a 2.3 engine but that cruises nicely on the motorway, I actually find 5th too high when towing but driving solo the revs are comfortable at 70mph. Single rear wheel is better unless you need the heavy duty (slightly thicker) chassis, it also gives you about 200kg more payload However most dropside Ivecos are double rear wheeled. Also watch out if you have a post '97 license, the Iveco Daily ranges from 2.9 up to 7tons. MPG - with panel van you can expect 25-28mpg I reckon if driven carefully. Edited by Spooky_b329, Oct 4 2015, 05:52 PM.

Hi cheers for that .. I would rather have the better payload and single rear wheel . But I'll take what ever at the minuite . ... Unfortunately most of our jobs ( large electric gates ) wouldn't fit inside a large panel van and that's why we need a dropside .....What kind of revs is it doing at 70 on the motorway ? Cheers Joe |
