how do you know that the fuel pump is u/s, no fuel at pump could just be a damaged fuel pipe causing it to suck air in? have you checked that the filter isnt clogged ? youve not really given us a lot of information. |

Sorry John I missed the rest of message Road service mechanics yOUR PUMP IS STUFFED and no further interest except you need to ring a heavy lift truck and as its too long for ours . I checked an d found very little fuel in the filter. So as I had to get home left bus there. Going back tomorrow with an in line filter or two; Intend to blow back the lines in case it is only a blockage There is no sign of any diesel leakage . so rules out leaky fuel line .Vehicle will start using a slug of Aerostart but wont run . So I was hoping that a diaphram kit was available And not have to buy a new pump. Parts for this model are not readily available over here. and take some running down I may be lucky and be able to jury rig a gravity feed to the Fuel filter and limp the old girl home Thanks again will let you knowhow I get on Regards Peter |

lack of visible diesel doesnt rule out a hole in your fuel pipe. you have two pipes, one from your tank to your pump, via your filter, one back from your injectors to the fuel tank. now the pipe from the tank to the fuel pump is under negative pressure, your pump sucks the fuel up from the tank, through the pipe, through the fuel filter and into the pump. so a hole in the pipe a loose filter, a duff seal on the filter housing, a loose pipe connection wont leak fuel out, it will leak air in, the air that comes in then starves your engine of fuel and the thing stops. ditto the fuel filter, its a pretty standard ford fitment, but again its under negative pressure, so if it is loose, or the seals perrish, then it sucks air in, and you dont see diesel. visible diesel is only an indication of a leak on either the pressure side of the pump, to the injectors, or the pipe back to the tank. high pressure leaks are instantly obvious and low pressure leaks are indicated by the smell. so, if youve no fuel in your filter, then start with that. it mightvery well be a fucked pump, but id try your prime pump first, pump it and see if you can make a suction at the filter, if you can, then you should be able to suck fuel from the tank, if you are pulling air, then youve a hole in the line or a duff seal on the filter. tbh, you wont probably be able to get a new pump from iveco or ford, not at this age, you will be better looking for a used one in a breaker or scouring ebay for someone breaking one. No good news my bus is now with the mechanical workshop.as I could not get it going. Found no inline plastic filters and no leaks. no blockage in fuel line. However I followed Johns description of fuel travel .tank to filter to pump to motor and on to injectors. Strangely mine was not the same it goes tank to lift pump to filter to motor and on to the injectors.would this be right or wrong. If its wrong I would think the lift pump is more vunerable to rubbish and gunk.A definite need of at least one plastic fuel filter. I did find a company on ebay that can supply new pumps .Monark Diesel .pumpe fur IVECO DAILY & fIAT dUCATO Diaphragm/fuel feed pump Look at PUZI'S-Shop. I not find mine but they show some that look like mine. |

Your description sounds right. Have you checked the sender in the fuel tank? They are quite complicated and have their own filters right at the bottom of the tank. You could try other experiments such as filling the fuel filter. That should hold enough fuel to run the engine a bit. On mine that kept the engine running long enough to fill my new hoses, without any need to prime them. |

My old girl is home and going again I spoke with the mechanic who worked on it . He says that a lot of the 8140/23 s sometimes have these fuel lock ups , caused by the solinoid on the high pressure pump behind the fuel lifter pump.I asked him what do I do to get it going when I am out in the bush. Strangely he seemed to go suddenly deaf and busy elsewhere as the boss came around. However I am happy as it did not need the fuel lifter pump replaced. they inserted a bubble in line fuel filter and replaced a dodgy section of crazed fuel line before it packed it in. Cost more for the tow than the repair, So if anyone can enlighten me on what he did to the solenoid Id be grateful regards Peter |

Possible the Stop solenoid? This will default to close if defective. |
