I'm doing the cambelt and having a few problems. 1) The cam wheel and the injector one are out by 1 tooth. 2) there are no markings on the crankshaft in the 9 'o' clock position, so I don't know which wheel is wrong and I'm rather nervous. the crankshaft shaft seal has a mark at 3 'o' clock The pulley has four holes (the bottom one lines up with the mark on the seal.) The pulley has a small notch at about 1 'o' clock that might line up with the cam belt The pulley has a hole at about 5 'o' clock, opposite the slot on the cog. which does NOT line up with a slot in cambelt cover which is at 6 'o' clock. Any ideas what I should line up? |

Hi, The camshaft is aligned at 12 o' clock see the marks, the injection pump sprocket locks with a 5mm drill and the crankshaft hole must be at 6 o' clock.

Thanks, that was reassuring. I also found alignment marks on the flywheel. The clutch housing had a window at the bottom with a plastic plate. The clutch housing had an alignment mark and there was a notch in the flywheel. I'm puzzled by the tensioner. How can it work if the pulley is bolted to the big stud on the crankcase? Am I missing something? Also puzzled about how the cover fits over the tensionner pulley. Thankd Mark |

Mark, Not sure if you still at this but the crankshaft pulley does not work with the tensioner. There is another pulley which levers through the tensioner. I use an open end spanner to hold the tensioner off until the belt has been fitted. Good luck |

Understood. It is all done now ad the engine runs, not been out on the road yet though. I needed a pair of spanners to hold the tensionner back enough. Yes the tensionner acts on a specific pulley, but this pulley is then bolted in place to the crankshaft stud. I presume the idea is that at a regular service the pulley nut is loosened to let the tensionner readjust, and then tightened again. On mine the belt was very loose when I came to it, and only tightened once I loosened the pulley nut. Also, the stepped washers had been assembled the wrong way round which limited the travel. |
