Hi guys, no van pushing i'm afraid......Went to disconnect the heavy cable from alternator to starter and it just crumbled so with two round 10mm cable thingys and a length of 10mm cooker cable made up a cable from alternator direct to battery. Outcome All OK, thanks for your help

Good to hear, that should do the job. If you are very fussy, then best not to use cables with thick copper wires because the are not as flexible as they ought to be for automotive applications.

Its irritating, to say the least, that the starter motor is so difficult to get to because the wires are so important. On mine (with chassis mounted battery) the wire goes from the battery to starter and then on to the rest of the vehicle electrics.
