ive a 1993 iveco turbodiesel 2.8 camper conversion, and the wipers are driving me potty. i cant get them to switch off. no matter what switch position i have them on, they just keep going. on low speed, intermittent and off position, they run at low speed, switching them to high speed makes them run faster, but i can only get them to go off by balancing the switch in a halfway position between off and on. now, in the past a previous owner has messed with the switchgear by adding his own extra washer button screwed to the bottom of the stalk. with this in mind, and the reputation of italian vehicle electrics, i figure that the switches are mullered, so i ordered a brand new switch off a guy on ebay. fusebox is bone dry, no water leaking into it, no frayed wires. it all appears fine, but wont work. additionally, occasionally turning the ignition off makes it ok, and it wont go wrong until i turn the wipers on and then it wont go off. at the same time, the green tell tale on the dash for the indicators stays on permanently. whilst its faulting. i just cant make sense of it at all. so, in short, when i turn the engine on and run it, all is fine till i turn the wipers on when i do, the indicator telltale comes on and stays on, and the wipers dont switch off. and then steam comes out of my ears.... |

Sounds like the relay for the wipers. It is in the fusebox. It may have been damaged by water. |

any ideas if the wiper relay is a standard automotive component or is it a specific iveco or even model specific component? id like to think that its just an off the shelf part and so long as i get a relay with the correct pins and numbers on it i will be ok, but im not counting on it! |

well, here goes nothing. ive taken a gamble but its only a tenner. i scoured ebay for iveco relays and got nothing, so i figured, its an iveco, thus a fiat one may fit, so i searched for that, still nothing. eventually i searched for wiper relay and picked through hundreds of posts. eventually i settled on a land rover defender wiper relay, same size, same number and layout of pins, and its a intermittent/off/low speed/hi speed relay so i ordered one, and if its not right, ive lost a tenner. attempting to pick through the black and white wiring diagrams however is not something im keen on. |

Is there any type of wiring diagram on the relay itself? If so, you could source from an electrical factors...... Relays Failing that, is there an iveco part number on the relay? You could try zepplin etc... If you can source specs of the relay from zepplin etc you could probably source from decent auto electrical factors..... Edited by trance, Aug 24 2016, 09:21 PM.

my logic here is that iveco werent exactly innovators. they would buy in proprietory parts from other manufacturers rather than design and build their own. so many electrical parts are fiat and badged as such, the engine is ford, so i cant imagine that they would buy in electrical and switchgear, and engines but then design their own model specific wiper relay. theres a good chance that it will just be a relay from another vehicle. its just a case of finding out which one. |

The relay will be a standard relay I am sure. The engine is made by Sofim. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sofim Graeme |

van is badged as and the v5 states it is an 'iveco ford'. the engine (2.8 td) has ford logo cast into it. |

relay has come. its got the same layout as the old one, and it fits. but the intermitent wiper doesnt work. not a huge issue as i seldom use it anyhow, but the low and high speed wipers work and faster than with the old relay, and most important, it turns off when i turn it off. so its a sort of a win!.....ish! |

Ford trucks were bought by Iveco (52% share). Iveco have infact been inovators, I am not wanting to start an argument about it. My V5 also say Iveco Ford, but nothing at all ford by that time '96. I doubt any manufacturer of cars/Trucks would produce small componants, think about starters alternators, water pumps. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iveco Graeme You may well be able to take the old one aprt and clean the contacts. They sometimes corrode from continuous sparking and then stop working correctly. Again nothing to loose by trying. Graeme Edited by graysworld, Aug 27 2016, 12:53 PM.

Hi, glad you got sorted (of sorts) have you a link to where you bought the relay? I'm always having trouble with no wipers working. Used to waggle the cables and they would start but nothing now. Figured it would be also useful to try a new relay (as they were quite slow anyway) or to have a spare. Mines a 1998

Mine were slow and it was the mechanism that was siezed. Make sure you take note of the wiper arm on motor position before you take it apart. Graeme |
